Kathy and I had a big year. We unloaded two daughters and two automobile dealerships. The good news is that they all went to great guys.
We began the year by selling our majority interest in Perry Chevrolet to Bob McCosh back in January. Bob held a minority interest and the title of General Manager for 19 years. He will do a great job with the dealership and has already expanded it to include Buick and GMC.
In June we handed daughter Kate off to Oliver Pryor in Sea Island, Georgia. They now reside in Athens, Georgia where Oliver is attending the University of Georgia Law School as a first year law student. Kate is working in interior design.
In August we handed off daughter Anne to Austin Swift. Austin moved from Tulane Law School in New Orleans to join Anne in Austin, Texas where he will finish his third year of law school at the University of Texas. (Where did all of these lawyers come from?) Anne is working in commercial real estate sales with Live Oak Gottesman in Austin.
Today, we closed on the sale of Perry Nissan and associated real estate to Gary Drewing. Gary joined Joe Machens in 1983 as General Manager. At that time they had 34 employees. Today Joe Machens Ford is the largest automobile dealership in the state.
Perry Chevrolet and Perry Nissan have been fortunate to serve literally hundreds of thousands of sales and service customers over the last 26 years
– the number comes closer to a million when you add the 22 years my father, Ed Perry, owned the Chevrolet dealership. Kathy and I appreciate the faith each and every Perry customer has placed in us over the years.
On behalf of my family and all the Perry Chevrolet and Perry Nissan associates, hundreds of thousands of thanks.
